ilipinos the world over are breathing a collective sigh of relief with President Arroyo's declaration of a state of national emergency. Somber-faced President Arroyo declares a State of Emergency on TVMany overseas Filipinos have been watching with horror and disgust as nefarious elements made up of followers of deposed President Estrada, corrupt Marcos die-hards, power-hungry military misfits, and the ever-present New People's Army thugs have slowly choked  away the dreams and aspirations of the Filipino people.

Concerned OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) have been following with dismay as the euphoria that was EDSA I in 1986 slowly mutated into a nightmare as corrupt and opportunistic politicians once allied with former dictator Ferdinand Marcos slowly weaseled their way back into power, first with the incompetent Cory Aquino administration, eventually reaching their stride in the kleptocratic administration that was Joseph Estrada's, Feb. 24. Rallyists converged at EDSA Shrine, demanding immediate resignation of Philippine President Arroyo. Unfortunately, this feeding at the public trough was suddenly interrupted by EDSA II in 2001, when Joseph Estrada was kicked out of office. It's now been five years and the dark forces seeking to plunder once again can wait no more. They have now sought to overthrow the legitimate government of President Arroyo by forming an unholy alliance with right-wing extremists, and left-wing communists. It is quickly apparent to any outsider that the only ideology holding the opposition together has to be the ideology of greed, as these groups are so disparate as to have nothing else in common.

What overseas Filipinos would like to see is President Arroyo completing the unfinished revolutions of EDSA I and II, and finally put those who have who deserve to be behind bars, where they belong. OFWs would like nothing better than to see a peaceful prosperous Philippines that they can come home to some day.
