he president's recent
directive to crush the Communist
Party of the Philippines and the
New
People’s Army (CPP-NPA) once and for all is receiving well-deserved
praise from all sectors of Philippine society--including overseas
Filipinos who have seen the NPA terrorists slowly chip away the peace
and tranquility that once characterized their home provinces and
barrios.
Even
opponents of President Arroyo such as Senator Enrile appear to be fed-up
with the communist's penchant for pretending to negotiate for peace
while giving up nothing and all the while escalating terrorist
activities in the cities and the countryside.
As
President Ramon Magsaysay (with the help of the US Central Intelligence
Agency) determined over five decades ago; this country cannot move
forward with a rebel insurgency nipping at its heels. These insurgents
must be neutralized if ever the Philippines is to catch up with the
booming economies of its neighbors.
And it
seems that now is a most opportune time.
Since
the United States and the European Union declared the CPP-NPA a
terrorist organization, much of their foreign funding sources have
dried-up. The rebels now resort to extortion, kidnapping and drug
dealing to raise the funds needed for their nefarious cause. To make
matters worse for them, their former allies China and Vietnam are now
embracing the capitalist lifestyle they so despise. Their only ally left
in the region is North Korea and it is in no position to offer them much
help.
It is up
to the Armed Forces of the Philippines with the help of the Philippine
National Police, and the rest of the Filipino people to be resolute and
steadfast in ridding the country of this communist scourge once and for
all. Make no mistake that it will take a lot of "blood. sweat and tears"
to accomplish, but it is winnable. At the same time, lets address the
issues of unfairness and inequality that the the terrorists use as their
recruitment tool and prevent them from ever rising up again in the
future.
Tell
Pres. Arroyo you agree with her
efforts to rid the country of insurgents.
