Disappointment was my immediate response when Senator M. Santiago, was reported as having made - what can be a very inappropriate statement toward a witness at the Impeachment Court. She was reported as having said "How dare you argue with me!" to a witness. Hopefully, the Senator will not do a repeat of her argue with me statement bcoz the impeachment trial has a global audience. An ordinary person may tag the Senator' statement as 'overly making a statement about her brilliance as a lawyer. Medyo overly hambog ang Senador. The appearance of double standard in CJ Corona's trial should & must not be overlooked. For his body language of covering his ears with his hands, Atty. Aguire was cited for contempt but no Senator-Judges admonished Sen Santiago for verbal use of 'gago'. Santiago's outraged in using gago is an outright act of labeling all prosecution members as having extreme mental retardation. That is what gago means. Aguire must not be punished for contempt of court as he was exercising his rights under the Philippine Constitution, Article III, Bill of Right, Section 4 "No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances." Atty. Aguire's covering his ears was an act of redress of grievances as he was opposed to the shrilling loud voice of Santiago while at the same time she called him names i.e. 'gago' (ang yayabang too) one who is extremely retarded. For the first time I saw a video of the proceedings. It will be an understatement to say that I can't believe I was watching a bunch of lawmakers, with the prosecution called by Santiago as GAGO grinning from ear to ear as one motioned that the word 'GAGO" be stricken from the record. A child would react angrily if he/she is called GAGO (I reckon STUPID, right?). But the prosecution as GAGO?! They could have motioned to have Santiago censured! I can not even say a nicer word for the Senator-Judges either. Prapreho lahat! No wonder the RP is going to the dogs.

Most people in this forum are appalled (disgusted) by the behavior of Senator Santiago who needed to be reined in (or put in check) by the presiding judge, Juan Ponce Enrile, in the impeachment trial of Corona. Instead the senate went after lawyer Aguilar who can’t bear the ranting of a sitting senator. This country is presenting to the world an image of immaturity, a display of political arrogance and blatant government over reach on its citizens.

I admire Atty. V. Aguirre for standing up his ground against the most powerful lady bully in the senate. Granting that she's a great legal mind yet her cantankerous & sadistic treatment of others is totally unacceptable. Why is she always exploding wildly with raised voice during this impeachment proceedings? Let's be honest, who wants to be yelled at like a little boy? Atty. Aguirre reacted right when he covered his ears which added insult to more anger. He knew the consequences of his actions & is willing to take whatever punishment from the judge-senators be it contempt or incarceration. I hope that Sen. Santiago can cope better next time, otherwise, we might see the senator lady dying of a heart attack in front of the camera.

Having witnessed Sen. Defensor-Santiago for the first time on live TV relative to the impeachment of SC, CJ Corona, it is my view that she has no tact and diplomacy dealing with prosecution panels. Mindful of her demeanor and behavior, demeaning and shaming her fellow lawyers is contemptible and unwarranted. How she was raised has something to do with her behavior and I wonder if the demise of her son/daughter is the consequence of her behavior. History will remember her for this kind of attitude she had shown. The senator needs a psychologist and a psychiatrist to treat her behavioral problems. My opinion as I see it.

Moody, impulsive, maddening..so, why does Sen. Santiago act the way she does? Reckless demeanor of an over-developed brain? It is said that there's a thin line separating the lunatic & a genius. Who knows, a bolt or a nut might be missing in her corpus callosum. The question is what's causing her to go ballistic & her loud bumbling in this proceedings? Stress, fatigue, elevated BP, or wrong medication? It appears to be some kind of dysfunctional trait which results in an ugly outcome for everyone. Perhaps there's too much dopamine in her neurotransmitter which could only be determined by a brain-scan. So, maybe this is the best time to file a motion for reconsideration from the Hague cuz she's a pain in the ass.

Is she helping or hindering this impeachment proceedings? Filipinos don't see her bullying tactics containing any kernel of wisdom. Yes, it's authoritative but in a very loud manner. She wants to be heard. Maybe a little patience & a little flexibility on her part will be much appreciated. Her loud, bossy, abusive language is so unbecoming of a senator of her stature & caliber. After hearing Santiago berate as GAGO the prosecution, I would repeat this again once more for the third time: I hope when this Santiago is already in the International Criminal Court she will realize she is not in RP anymore. She can not be calling judges and prosecutors GAGO anymore without repercussion or a backfire. Why would she be angry if the prosecution dropped the other charges/complaints? It is done all the time in the Courts of Justice, impeachment included.
