practiced or used in the P.I. in the modern times. The purpose of the death penalty is warn criminals of the consequence of committing violent crimes , however, the Philippines is not a barbarian government..There are treaties that we have signed with the U.N. which
might not allow these kinds of penalties.

During his campaign he promised the impossible, yet the Filipinos believed that a great change will happen, and most Filipinos are so desperate of government changes that will benefit them, so instead of voting to a decent candidate, chose Duterte, so good luck to the all millions of Filipinos who are expecting the changes from Duterte. This all means that crime is rampant and on the rise. Again, people are not born criminals, if criminality is the main reason why this death penalty will be reinstated. We must re-address parents, schools, religious institutions, and society as a whole that it takes all of us to raise children to become good law-abiding citizens. Death penalty is not a cure-all. The U.S. may have the largest prison industry in the world and also have death penalty and death rows in place for several years where executions actually occur regularly, yet, crime is still on the rise because the young generation has been disconnected and neglected for many generations due to ever-growing demands of materialism and other factors of keeping up and survival. Does death have a higher priority than life for the present and more generations to come. Let us give our children a greater chance of not becoming a burden to society but of becoming useful assets for the greater good of the nation and the world.

I think every religious fanatic will believe that Quibuloy is an "Anointed Son of God." The supporters of Quibuloy are abysmally unfamiliar with the nature of mass fanaticism, which contributes to the destruction of a "culture of reason or rational actors" in modern democracy. Moreover, the above editorial [or editor] has ignored the essence of retributive theory of justice or punishment: the punishment criminal deserves or the punishment every society has a right to inflict, the concept of justice per se, so on & so forth. You don't need to be a lawyer to read Kant's & Hegel's brilliant defense of punishment [even death penalty]: "Punishment is justified by backward looking considerations; it would be unjust for criminals not to receive it. No person should profit from his wrongdoings [ a drug mule, a rapist, a plunderer of public fund, a terrorist, etc.]. This is common knowledge. Plain & simple.

66% of those who didn't vote for Digong are apprehensive of the direction he would want to take this country. It is true that the incidence of crime rate is high in NCR and in most large cities including Davao. The media is reporting his intention of abolishing BIR, BOC and LTO instead of reforming them. The media is also reporting his plans of abolishing capital punishment and lowering criminal liability even for minors under 15 . He is all over the place with guns
blazing even attacking CBCP and its bishops. The greatest problem plaguing the country is POVERTY. Digong should focus on that. Poverty is the engine that drives low income families and their out of school children to gravitate towards crime. There are more adults committing heinous and despicable crimes . Furthermore the low efficiency of the police in solving crimes contribute to the rise in the incidence of crime. We should not annihilate juvenile offenders but rather rehabilitate them. Let us look if the process of rehabilitation works; if not, make it better. As for the offending adults give them the "max".

When someone makes a long list of "must do " before being officially sworn in, people will hold the presumptive president accountable for those "promises" revealed prematurely. The point I am raising is this: is that pandering or a product of careful thinking? Remember that all promises have due dates. Phil Researcher: It took 9 years to acquit Abalos, which to me has no legal leg but purely hearsay, in the first place: what Neri said or what de Venecia said re Abalos. It was a waste of taxpayer's money to litigate. The true loser here is China's ZTE if some cash changed hands. Mike Arroyo here was the big winner. He got the grease money. If I were with the justice department it should be that man who should be indicted and sent to prison and not Gloria. Mike Arroyo is one hungry "Lolong". PNL: Up to this point I cannot come up with any logical reason why you have added DISQUS to this forum. In the first year of its being, I was so impressed by a couple of regular contributors, I almost quit writing because I felt inferior in style and don't have much to offer in terms of quality standards.
