Why suddenly the focus is on Trillanes? Have we forgotten about Duterte's corruption issues? Everybody now is afraid of Duterte. And how about the Marcoses? Imee Marcos and her sons excess stolen money in the Panama Papers had seen light only for one or two days in the media.Who will. have the political will to jail these garbage family of the Philippine society.

Re: Pres Aquino III- Did he commit treason for sending sen. Trillanes to China to negotiate? Absolutely not, he was exercising his power as President of the Philippines..Duterte's people would advice the incoming President not to file any Treason case against the Pnoy or Sen. Trillanes..It would just be dismissed for lack of merit and for filing frivolous cases which amount to filing a scrap of paper.

That Trillianes is liar from the very beginning, I want him hang on the gallows. He lied about 210 million pesos account and 2.2 billions accounts of Duterte. He lied about back door dealing with China, he spent all his pork barrel allowance to his hundred of advisers. Unbelievable person to be a senator, he acted as attack dog of some millionaires.Very arrogant person must go to jail again. I do not know why people voted for hin?

Senator Ponce Entire went a deep sea fishing hoping he could plant the seed of doubt that Trillianes sold the country literally to China. Duterte picked it up from there as payback time: to sue Trillianes with treason. As a former prosecutor, he should know the elements required to satisfy the charge of Treason. He would look dumb and dumber if he pursues his threat to sue.

In the United States, especially in wartime, treasonous act is punishable by a firing squad. I wonder if the Philippines have any punishment for people committing such act during time of peace; selfish people who sell the country in part or in full.

This article is an old debate: men [in any society] will continue to be motivated by power [greed, money & other self-interests] & Filipino politicians know that the best & shortest way to make ill-gotten wealth is to let the Filipino voters believe that they are dying to deliver the political goods or promises. What makes every politician tick? Pose as a friend of less-educated & poor Filipino voters or democratic institutions, but work as a spy for communist China. Do you gain an intangible benefit from performing your civic duty as a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines? Well, it is common knowledge that freedom of suffrage [or the free-exercise of voting] is also a form of "insurance against the collapse of democratic institutions." Again, the Filipino people must learn how to distinguish a statesman & a spy. Remember that "rulers see through spies, as cows through smell..." It seems that everything is for sale in the Republic of the Philippines: the Philippine flag or the Philippine sovereignty, conscience, freedom, dignity, the Supreme Court or the courts or justice & the vulnerable & weak democratic institutions.

Rodel Rodis must comprehend that communist China is not interested in legal paper or basis of ownership of Scarborough shores. The communist Chinese have been able to master the art of timing in the occupation of the Spratley islands. The PLA of China will soon reach the fruition of their military adventures in China sea. Even a spineless politician & commander in chief of the armed forces of the Philippines like president BS Aquino, who wants to convert the province of Pampanga as his personal kingdom [see sugar plantation in Hacienda L. Cojuangco] is still confused [see public opinion] where the Republic of the Philippines is heading. Moreover, you don't need to be a lawyer or an intellectual to understand the logic of Maslow's ladder to figure out what is on the mind of every poor Filipino voter & every corrupt Filipino politician. Do you think every Filipino voter is willing to sacrifice his empty stomach for freedom or liberty or for the survival of democratic institutions, so on & so forth? Again, your ignorant & stupid leaders [with bloated useless academic credentials like Aquino, Roxas, Drillon, etc.] had failed to "sniff out the spirit of the times." Plain & simple folks.

Re: Sen Trillanes- The question is should he be charged with Treason?. Absolutely not From the facts stated in the article Sen. Trillanes did not commit any treasonous act. He had meetings with the Chinese which was authorized by the President. He did not cause the loss of Scarborough Shoal. The reason the Chinese have the upper hand is they reneged on an agreement which their Minister had with a U.S.A. Naval Official. The agreement was for them to leave in the same manner as the P.I. What are you going to charge Trillanes? Nothing. It's the Chinese who are not following the terms of the agreement.

As I've underscored, it is the miserable hope of the Filipino voters that the Duterte presidency will provide instability in democratic institutions & serve as a protection against corruption. The Duterte must be an ideal democracy like a glove. The legal institution must contribute to the legitimacy of the Republic of the Philippine. I think the Supreme Court has damaged Philippine Democracy [see the late Chief Justice Corona's leadership of the Supreme Court]. President Duterte has an excellent opportunity to make history by bringing all Filipino plunderers of public fund, traitors, spies, drug mules & terrorists to justice. I think the crimes of corrupt Filipino politicians & other public servants are heinous: statute of limitation does not apply to those who committed treason against the Filipino people. President Duterte must tract down relentlessly all corrupt Filipino politicians, generals, police officers & other public servants [past & present] & bring them all to justice. The presidency of Duterte must serve as the conscience of the oppressed Filipino people like the Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal [see Never Forgotten You].

As a former prosecutor, the presumptive president must know that he is hard to accuse a sitting senator of treason on a deal brokered by the US and China to diffuse tension in Panatag Shoal that the government agreed. By definition treason is a breach of allegiance by a person who lives in that country to overthrow the government or to prevent enforcement of a lawful order. The elements of treason from a legal standpoint are hard to establish and prove in court particularly the matter of wrongful intent and the actions that violate that obligation of allegiance on the issue of allegiance. The truth of the matter was that ownership of all those disputed islands in South China is under arbitration. The matter was made worse when the presumptive president asserted we lost Scarborough and that he had to ask permission from China to allow Zambales fishermen to fish on Panatag Shoal which is closer to us than China.Digong is usurping the power of the incumbent. Could he not wait until he is formally sworn in? ATAT NA ATAT TALAGA !

Filipino legislatures must be men of actions & models of moral virtue [i.e., good character or habit]. It is unfortunate that some of the sons & daughters of the Republic of the Philippines are enemies of democratic values. They are devoid of moral virtue: "we become just by doing just acts, temperate by doing temperate acts, brave by doing brave acts." A great thinker once said that "legislatures make the citizens good by forming habits in them, & this is the wish of every legislatures...For him, this is the primary purpose of the law." What are the terms & final aim of virtue [Persius]? I do agree that treason is the extremest sort of injustice, where unjust [acts committed by elected Filipino politicians against his/her land of birth or the Filipino people as a whole] must be refuted for just.

There is no truth to the rumor that the Philippines (PH) did not mind China's reclamation projects in the disputed territories because PH is confident it will win before the United Nations (UN) and China will be forced to vacate the island and the improvements it made. Obviously, PH has a ready made infrastructure in the islands at the expense of the Chinese. China will obviously not go to war for fear of losing its economic prosperity.

I think it is common knowledge that the past political leaderships or regimes of president Arroyo & president Aquino were able to produce public distrust & "a psychosis of mass despair." I think in the field of international affairs, the ignorance & stupidity of your commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Philippines [i.e., president Aquino's failure to protect & defend the sovereignty of the Philippines against China] was costlier than plundering the public fund. Many Filipino politicians were busy to re-build their rotten images to be re-elected but very few were dead serious to deliver political goods or political campaign promises. There is a possibility that cherished corrupt behaviors & beliefs of yesterday Filipino leaders will not be revised. What are you gonna believe, then? Communist Chinese will soon feast on your own backyard. It seems that acting & thinking are not the natural attributes of your commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Philippines. History of great leaders & generals will unmask the stupidity & ignorance of your past anointed president Aquino & president Arroyo [who stole the democratic ballot box]. "Wars [or psychological or ideological wars if you will] are won by those who think clearly & calmly & act vigorously & promptly." How can you remedy the injustices in your own country?

Re: President Duterte--Now that I heard him speak to reporters and ABS-CBN TV patrol, it appears that the new President has a plan to "abolish".. corruption. He illustrated the current practice that when a high ranking PNP is transferred to another region, he transfers with him his staff of about 30 members., that under his administration won't happen anymore he will not allow it.. My hope is that his appointees are sincere and not charlatans, because the pretentious ones are the people who will destroy his plan..as long as the President is sincere, I believe he will have some kind of success... In six (6)years the habits of people can't be just change outright.. There are employees in government who are not affected by elections.. This is the so called permanent government. may be some of them have to be retired or outright dismissed.

WA-KA-NGA!!! WA-KA-NGA!!!

It's more fun in Philippine politics. Officials freely and independently acting their own script not necessarily out of sworn public duty but most often by the lure of illicit gain by selling the country in every influential way. How does anyone know if the 7,200 Islands have already been sold in shady backroom deals not only to presumed enemies but also to other entities we still call our friends? Remember that when a government agent travels locally or abroad, whether in an official capacity or otherwise, he goes home bearing gifts to himself and his family. We was robbed!

The killing of suspects in drug trade should send chills to everyone particularly those who look like drug pushers / users. Evidences could be planted by law enforcers to justify the killings. People must demand from the government that body cameras must be provided to the police to justify their actions against citizens. People fear that DDS will go national. Citizens should be vigilant and alert. Have your video cameras netizens handy. Remember " the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Tubong Mindanao: Back to the Dark Ages is a term used not in reference to the death penalty as you incorrectly understood but rather to that period in history where there is intellectual darkness and barbarity. Hanging is a method of execution for capital offenses in many countries ( in Middle Eastern countries, in some Caribbean and Asian countries) but the Philippines considers this method of execution barbaric.

PNL is against abuse of power through subjective approach... and the abandonment of the presumption of innocence. Please improve your reading comprehension. Its horrible.

For CHANGE to be felt, Digong should begin the change from the TOP (meaning from him) and should cascade or trickle downwards. Don't expect CHANGE to flow like a fountain (from the bottom up). If we look at the people that surround Digong who give him advice and counsel it is the same KKK selection method practiced by Pnoy. CHANGE IS COMING so they say. That is what you think!

[Someone] must educate himself about the vital features of modern & ancient democracies. It is common knowledge that it is very hard to maintain peace & order in a corrupt Philippine democracy being ruled by political charlatans [or plunderers of public fund, criminals & traitors ]. Of course, not all democratic elections will produce virtuous & strong leaders. A strong executive is an essential attribute of modern republic or democracy today. He must ask himself a simple question: Who was the true founder of democracy? The true founder of democracy believed that bringing the power to the ordinary people is the right thing to do to defeat corruption & achieve political stability. In fact, even one of the great thinkers of republicanism agreed: "that democratic election provides infinite & most virtuous princes." And he believed in death penalty, or the "extra-ordinary modes of execution: the law must be visibly & impressively executed." Plain & simple.

The "Hello Garci" [see Gloria Arroyo's rigging of democratic presidential election] was a product of corrupt Philippine democratic election. It is common knowledge that a corrupt Philippine democracy under a corrupt president, who stole the votes of ordinary Filipino voters [see Hello Garci] will be a breeding place for terrorists, traitors, extremists, drug dealers, plunderers of public funds, tax evaders, rapists, & criminals. Do you need "the simple virtue of one man or a citizen, or the kingly power without having a king who acts outside the law" in order to defeat the enemies of the Republic of the Philippines? One of the great thinkers of republicanism will educate the mercenary [who has a limited knowledge of the structures of the English Language] that "when the public spirit is absent, republic [or democratic-republican government if you will] will become corrupt & fall victim to tyrants" [or corrupt Filipino politicians]. Moreover, I don't consider myself as a conformist critic in this forum. But I do believe that those Filipino voters who inherit electoral fraud, poverty, oppression, treason, & economic deprivation are also victims of injustice. What is the source of human anguish? One curses the time in which he is born [i.e., in a corrupt Philippine democratic society]. It is common knowledge that some Filipino voters, if not the majority of Filipinos, suffer oppression & poverty from "cosmic injustice." Plain & simple.

To [someone]: We don’t eliminate the influence of environmental factors in criminal behavior. In regards to BBM, do you think he grew up with goodly parents? His parents are criminals and of course he was raised by criminals, where deception, cheating, stealing and killing were normal for Meldita & Macoy. He grew up where his environment was so corrupted and surrounded by evil people (his parents) and I do believe he is the same as his parents, just waiting the chance or opportunity to be in power and he will prove it to you that he is no different from his parents.

Jessica Zafra must understand the transformations or metamorphosis of leaders in Philippine democracy. Duterte is not ignorant of the nature of power: it produces an undue belief in personal charisma & greatness. The desire to dominate in politics, or to be a statesman or to be a dictator, & for good or for evil, can be universal. The consciousness of power is an elementary psychological fact. Duterte derives pleasures from the expression of his individuality. I think any leader is not willing to exchange his style of political leadership for those of other corrupt Filipino politicians. I think every charismatic leader once he attained power over the masses will not return to the obscure position he previously occupied. In fact, great world leaders did not merely recognize in popular sovereignty the philosophical & theoretical foundations of all their activities, for instance, Napoleon III made himself popular & powerful political figure in France by regarding himself as the executive branch manifested in democratic election. In other words, Napoleon III like Duterte were the creations of the masses. You must ask yourself a simple question: What are the pros & cons of a theory of charismatic leadership which originates in the collective will of the Filipino voters?

Re: The end of Ferdinand Marcos..(FM).. The end of FM started when Ninoy was killed the Manila International Airport...FM had control of everything during that time. Thus Ninoy had to use the stairs in going down from the plane when he could have used the regular way the tube goes straight in front of every one..The extensive explanation of FM on how Ninoy was killed when he explained to the U.S. Ambassador just led him (U.S Ambassador) to conclude that FM was the mastermind.

Re: The bullet ploy.. In the last few months of the Ninoy admin.. the NAIA became a place where the employees of government extorted money from travelers.. It was the Administration policy of not intervening that destroyed their reputation with the travelling public. They should have followed what most airports here in the U.S.A. do. If there is a bullet just let them go probably they made a mistake. The Administration was perceived by the public to be weak. You know those bullets were planted when they would detain an old person for possessing a bullet.. Let them go. No wonder tourists avoid Manila as a destination

It would appaear that the in-coming president is hell bent on suing Trillianes with breach of allegiance to the country! I am no lawyer but I thought this was a frivolous suit! The standards for this charge is high. Inspite of the incoming president being a lawyer or prosecutor, this kind of lawsuit is above his head. I have to see how this lawsuit would stand in court. I thought the incoming president should keep his focus on solving the problems of POVERTY and runaway population growth instead of being consumed on petty warnings addressed to Baron Geisler "TO STOP IT!" What a waste of time. TIME IS GOLD BROTHER.

Let us not make a fool of ourselves by believing that Davao City is a mecca of low crime rate, fewer people intoxicated by alcohol and drugs, and no music fill the air before midnight. Let us not be swayed by the proponents of capital punishment that penalty is a deterrent to crime and that hanging should be the preferred method of execution. We are taking the ball away from our eyes that POVERTY, CREDIBILITY of OUR COURTS, and MISTRUST WITH THE POLICE are very evident. There are many unsolved homicides in Davao City and the perception that a vigilante group exists who takes orders from "higher ups" andwho performs summary executions even in broad delight. It intimidates people, it incites fear and terror that one day he could end up as another statistic executed illegally because of mistaken identity.

To Ofelia Fermil: Great Comment. Keep Posting. So here we are after the 2016 elections. And look what we are talking about. Lewd Comments and Whistles Duterte, the Church of Duterte, The killing and snobbing of the media, his friendship and worry that he might offend the son of Marcos if he appoints Leni Robredo to any office, a threatened lawsuit for his disrespect of women, and more street topics of conversation. The Philippines is having PROBLEMS with China, Overpopulation, Pollution, Corruption, Employment, etc., etc., etc., Did you notice any of the politicians talking about these problems? Didn't the Filipinos vote for CHANGE? Are there suggestions on how to confront the PROBLEMS instead of talking about women's looks? The majority of the voters have elected Duterte. Surprise, there is no blueprint for changes. Instead it is the Filipinos who have to change by getting used to his personality. And if they complain? Well, as Duterte said, Don't "F_ _K with me"! So there he is, take it or leave it.

To Hit & Run; I agree with you. The quality of discourse has gone down tremendously in the Forum. That's because when one blogger starts using general name-calling and sarcasm the others respond in kind. I plead guilty to that. And it goes on from there. But what can you do? It is an open Forum. It does not require proper internet decorum and etiquette so anyone who does not have the necessary tools can post a comment. It does not occur to them that their comments are derisive and therefore offensive. They are too pedestrian and uncouth. What matters to these people is not to put an idea across for proper discussion. All that matters to them are the insults and sarcasm they freely express to their fellow bloggers. Just like Edward. How I wish all of them had your finesse. But someone has to respond to the Edwards of this Forum. If not the educated bloggers will be bulldozed with lies, insults and sarcasms.

To Sam the Mercenary who said: "It sucks to be a Filipino". Sam, that's very understandable. And I don't blame you. Filipinos themselves make it suck. Especially if you have been living in another environment for a long time.

Sure, we don't want our country to develop into an opium den of the Far East; we must make sure generations of young Filipinos following are not zombied by excessive drugs in their veins and brains. However, there is another way, a more humane and lawful way to deal with these hated sowers of mind-altering substances that rob a man's mind, body, and soul. The elected president must find a solution to help drug lords and drug addicts turn their ways around become useful citizens. Like further developing the infrastructure and the economy to generate more good jobs with living wages. Extra-judicial killing of suspects or even the guilty is not a solution at all for it will encourage all kinds of hatred and discontent and ultimately drug wars as we see in Latin America today

Re: Donald Trump--He might have self destructed himself before even going to be officially made the GOP nominee. His statement with Jake Tapper of CNN that a Judge with a Mexican heritage can't do his job (Judge Gonzalo Curiel) was born in the State of Indiana and studied and finished Law in Indiana was originally appointed by Gov Swarzennager as a Calif. Judge but was appointed as Federal Judge by President Obama. Mr. Tapper repeatedly asked Trump , isn't what your saying to this Judge a definition of racism. Many of those GOP delegates might not vote for him because of his blatant racism. So far Speaker Ryan has stated that Trump is wrong to say those racist commentss to a sitting Federal Judge.

It is true that Duterte's target are only small time corrupt officials or small time criminals. If he really is serious to weed out corruption how come the generally acknowledged worst corrupt families of Marcos are still buddy- budies with him? He would even reward this family of their wish to bury the "Greatest Thief in world History"(Ferdinand Marcos) as per Guinnes Book of World records. Marcos are pathological liars and so is Duterte. "Be careful with what you wished for".
