I agree; you have made it clear to all that Filipinos today do not belong anymore to those "yes-sir/no-sir" generations of yesteryears. Well-traveled and well-exposed to differing world conditions and cultures they know how to stand for themselves even shoulder-to-shoulder with other nationals. These attributes of the young, learned, and energetic Filipinos can stand against the Chinese bullies in our fight against their oppressive behavior near our own shores. This inspiring editorial must be read by all so that we'll realize who we really are, what we can do, and how we will do it. Right is might and when it comes to being right, size doesn't matter.

I agree 100% with this editorial. Philippines and the world especially the ASEAN countries should stand up against the bully and evil China. The
Asean countries are weak compared to China but if they stay together they can give a real punch against
China militarily and economically.

All of this happens because of the stupidity of some gov't officials. First, if the American bases
were still IN THE PHILIPPINES THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Second. Arroyo sold the Philippines to the Chinese. How stupid can she be. She should be jailed for treason. And now what. Wake up and do something for your country.

Not with the incoming administration led by the President elect Duterte, a moron, crass who coddles up to the left and will be more than willing to sell the Philippines for a pittance. Good luck!

I suspect that China will provide the facts regarding the reason why Trillanes were sent to them 16 times after Noynoy leaves office. I think China didn't take Trillanes seriously as a negotiator because China never trusted Noynoy ever since the failed hostage situation in Luneta

He should be charged of treachery or disloyalty. If he tried to overthrow the country by sedition, or tried to harm or even kill the head of state then he can be tried for treason. But why him if he was acting on an official business as dictated by the incumbent president? If the person committed a certain crime yet unknown to the public and against his sworn constitutional duty that caused irreparable damage to RP's sovereignty, well, I leave that question open to all.

JDLC wants Trillianes to hang on the gallows. My question is quite simple: " does the punishment fit the crime?" The bank account exists and Duterte admitted that. As to the crime of treason or breach of allegiance, that is hard to prove. Maybe you may want to suggest chopping the hand of those who steal from the government coffers. Or cutting the penises of all rapists.

[Someone said] that Communist China is not interested in legal papers to establish ownership of Panatag Shoal and that Rodel Rodis doesn't comprehend this. He does but you don't. China uses the 9-line to claim all those disputed islands in South China Sea. In fact china is saying on paper that Guo Shoujing an Chinese astronomer visited Scarborough shoal in 1279. In the legal system one must show proof of ownership; without it your claim is bogus. This man erred in saying that Hacienda Luisita is in Pampanga instead of Tarlac. His blog has no intellectual value and a waste of journalistic space!

There is no perfect or faultless person, more so, no politician is. A known corrupt-free person, if there is such a one, must keep away from politics for sooner or later the true color of such an individual will show. No past president exited from his or her position clean or unstained. In fact, the last two or even four of our ex-pres have been practically booted out from office by the same authority who put them in that national capacity. The only thing the citizenry can do is keep a close watch on whom they trust to represent them; there must be a transparent and strict law to recall or kick them out of office as soon as they are found guilty of fooling around and misbehaving in their elected or appointed duty. And no one should be immune from such a law, including the president.

Someone said, "Rodel Rodis must comprehend that communist China is not interested in legal paper or basis of ownership of Scarborough shores. The communist Chinese have been able to master the art of timing in the occupation of the Spratly islands." My reaction: Do you mean the legality of the issue? Just simplify you statement because it is so annoyingly redundant and superflous... "Bisayang Ingles" kung baga.. Believe me, Rodel Rodis fully comprehends the issue more than the 50 of your likes combined, What is very hard to comprehend is your style of English composition.. You need to improve your writing and reading composition.... You use too much vague terms and you mix them with unnecessary subject matter like Abraham Maslow and so forth.... Very annoying.

WA-KA-NGA!!! WA-KA-NGA!!!

My reaction: The Chinese are moving not because it is the wish of the Chinese people but of their party to maintain their national and international relevance.. Their problem along with the significant food survival is international relevance as they are slowly succumbing to the Western style of democracy.. To do that, they need the oil to back up their yuan,
they need to shoals to monopolize the fish resources as well as air control.

Spineless? With the current economic-military resources he has or we have as

Before even being sworn this incoming president is creating so many issues that are a complete distractions to the basic problem of the country which is
POVERTY and runaway growth in population. When people have work they are less likely to commit petty crimes and be a menace to society. Families would be able to send their children to school, rent homes instead on public lands, stay healthier by staying away from hunger and more positive in their outlooks on life. The country becomes a better place to live in. A better government is brought to the people. Hope is abundant!

The logic of punishment is obvious: it is an institution [i.e., the state or the ruling elite of any regime, etc.], which embodies the social contract has the power to construct its own symbol or image or reality. It is common knowledge that the state has the authority to execute its contractual duty [to punish every Filipino criminal who commits an evil act] in accordance with the rule of law, not the rule of a king. Why engage in interpretation [i.e., "polysemy"] of punishment when its fundamental purpose, defect, failure, symbol or
ritual [i.e., an expression of values], tension, problem, so on & so forth is obvious? Moreover, the fact remains: "The infliction of punishment by any state & regime upon its citizens is civil war in miniature." Presidente Duterte must continue to hunt all drug lords [foreign & domestic], terrorists, plunderers of public funds & corrupt public officials & bring them to justice. Plain & simple.

I think president Duterte has a golden opportunity to make history: a firm commitment to action, or to struggle & sacrifice for strong presidential leadership. Why? History is always waiting for honest & resolute leaders who are endowed with determination to actualize the concept of political will. I do believe that president Duterte will be remembered as one of the true heroes of the Philippine Republic if he is determined to fight what he recognizes as unjust. President Duterte can be the "salt of the earth" & moral inspiration in modern Philippine democracy: the subordination of all personal interest & relationship [i.e., "Let me be very clear to you as my friend [Quiboluy]...ends where the interest of the begins.] Again, excellent leaders know that from the point of justice, they can't let drug lords & criminals eat the human flesh, or to destroy the children of the Filipino people.

I think Quiboloy knows that religion or theocracy is an effective tool to monopolize the intellectual development of the citizens of Davao city [Davao del Norte, Philippines], who are men & women of science by anointing himself as the Son of God. This is not only an epidemic or an injustice inspired by some Filipino magicians & spiritualists like pastor Quiboloy. I think when every follower of Quiboloy has failed to cultivate a critical view of everything [i.e., a follower of Quiboloy who is devoid of the cognitive aspects of religion], he becomes a victim of every religious charlatan. An outstanding modern thinker once said: "Man has a duty to use his reason in his private affairs as well as in the inquiry concerning the relation between himself, nature, and his fellow man..." Is theology immune from modern rational standards?

Every conscious-thinking-acting Filipino voter is a member of the drama of his nation's history: The Filipino voters can't ignore recognizing certain political & moral principles. They can't remain aloof from social-political action. Every Filipino voter is a subject of president Duterte's presidency. President Duterte owes his political wisdom & intellectual cultivation to the oppressed Filipino voters [who supported him] whose children are victims of the evil of illegal drugs & heinous crimes [a Filipino corrupt politician's soul is identical to the soul of a pig [if there's any such thing if you will]. Most corrupt Filipino leaders [see under the regimes of Aquino, Estrada, Arroyo, etc. who are still holding political power] will ignore the evil in "vale of tears" & the institutionalization of corrupt political leadership. Moreover, the essence of justice in the Republic of the Philippines is empty without recognizing the nature of existing social-political-economic injustices.

Re: The Philippines- A call to arms by the President-elect. Pres. Duterte in a nationwide televised program last Saturday (June 4 2016) had encouraged the public to help him in his war against crime urging citizens with guns to shoot drug dealers who resist arrest and fight back in their neighborhoods. Dutere said those who help him would be rewarded. The problem with this encouragement to become vigilantes is that mistakes will happen and as there is no more trial the punishment is death when in fact the law doesn't allow capital punishment . This story was from the Los Angeles Times published Monday June 6, 2016. Remember Duterte was elected by plurality votes not a majority of Filipinos didn't vote for him.

According to [someone], "PNL or is not against death penalty." Where is the
beef? As I've underscored again & again, I am not a conformist critic. A critic
is like a teacher: teaching is the art of sharing. I don't consider knowledge
[or education] like the abyss of the ocean as private property. "Am I a stranger
in my land of birth [Philippines]?" Am I alienated? I do respect your opinion
[i.e., either interesting or insignificant, shallow or critical]. But the fact
remains, we don't share identical values, perspectives of the world & commonly
held beliefs, so on & so forth. I do agree that reason must be sly &
sophisticated if it has a point of attack in this world. Why not enlighten me
about the nature of punishment [i.e., death penalty, life imprisonment, etc.] in
a contemporary society?

Re: President Duterte--This is the first President who encourages Filipinos to take the law in to
their own hands..If a drug dealer doesn't allow himself to be arrested and the citizen has a gun just shoot him. No more trials. It is good there are not that many Filipinos who will take Pres. Duterte's suggestion literally. The problem with that encouragement is that in many instances, the drug dealer
also has a gun .. the result is that many people would die even before they are charged with a criminal offense.

This man who wanted to mislead many readers that he is broadcasting from Taft is completely ignorant of what he is talking about. He does not comprehend what the issues were on South China Sea. It is about freedom from navigation and control of air space more than physical ownership of islands that you do see on low tides but disappear on high tides. He wants you to be convinced that it is the intention of BS Aquino of making Pampanga "his kingdom". Wrong ! Pampanga is Arroyo's country. The Cojuangcos and the Aquinos are from Tarlac.
