To the Dabaweños, Duterte was a great mayor, but to the rest of the country he has to prove himself as a president who could move the country to greater heights. Davao was easier to manage as there were but 2 million people compared to a country with 100 million souls with varying needs and more complicated problems. Metro Manila alone has a population 6.5 times more than Davao. Metro Manila has more personal, economic and social issues relative to a smaller city like Davao. Manileños have different personality traits than Dabaweños. Taming a lion is a challenge to Digong. I will reserve my judgment later
after he completes his 6 year term.

This is the same phrase we hear all the time whenever someone wins the presidency besides our own choice. And when did we really like someone who became our chief executive with the exception of MLQ or RM? Filipinos ever since have been trying their best to elect the ideal candidate who will serve them without resorting to self-aggrandizement and yet they have failed many times not because of ignorance but it's due to the fact that there really are no qualifying choices to realize that dream. But you are right; whomever we choose to be our president, we have to live with what he will do for the nation and its people.

According to this man from Taft " "federalism gives rise to modern tribalism". If one follows this twisted
knowledge then USA or Canada are symbols of modern tribalism. In federalism , independent states have their own state legislators, state police, state judges, etc. but at the end sovereignty still resides in the federal government. I am amazed that as a resident of the United States the man from Taft still doesn't understand the workings of a federal form of government. I think the obsession for federalism by Duterte is the lack of regional representation in government. Most senators are from Luzon. You could count with your fingers those senators from Mindanao or Visayas. No president hailed from Mindanao and he broke the barrier; similarly a repeat of a speaker from Davao.

Some 17 million voters who chose Duterte will be expecting a lot from him. It is customary for any incoming president to be evaluated on the first 100 days in office. He can't make excuses or say " I am sorry." If he can't deliver on his promise a win on the drug menace in 3 - 6 months, the remaining 37 million who did not choose him would say : " I told you so.": If the peso slids to 50 to a dollar, the income gap widens, and more people are thrown out of work, national frustration begins its early buildup. Demonstrations and protests are bound to happen.

Any claim by the incoming administration that they could untangle the traffic mess in Manila and clear the country of illegal drugs is hogwash. First, too many motor vehicles on a very narrow roads. As to the drug menace, plug the source and bring the angel of death to these Chinese. But our citizens are missing something: too many people with no jobs. No we way we could lower the incidence of poverty and crime under this
condition. BTW, "idleness is the workshop of the devil." If Duterte could only do what I wrote, kissing his a*s is no big deal!

I am sure Duterte has the best of intentions but at the end he will be judged solely on the favorable outcome. It is in the execution of his objectives that matters the most. People he has trusted become the workhorse. If Duterte fumbles , he can't blame anyone. However , it should encourage him to do better. After all every failure is a stepping stone to success.

I think George Carlin has ignored the moral philosophy of the utilitarian
thinkers [utilitarianism] on their defense of liberal principles in democracy:
maximizing the general welfare. It is better for the Filipino voters [literate,
less-educated, & ignorant] to chose for themselves, even if, on occasion, they
don't it right. In short, when democratic voters go to the polls & cast their
ballots, you must count their votes, whatever they are. I think modern corrupt
Filipino democratic politician is a reflection of a contemporary Athenian madman
who is always preoccupied by his own merit, elitist education, & self-love. In
other words, he believes that every vessel entering the harbor is his.

I am one those who are not impressed by political promises. Many times our fingers have been burned by the failure to make true the promises of these elected officials. Bagong Lipunan created a new breed or generation of oligarchs. Matuwid na Daan created a horrible traffic mess and commuter headaches. Too few bad apples made it to prison. Duterte promised "Change" but he expects change to come from citizens when it should start from the leadership. He said in 3 - 6 he will get rid of illegal drugs . That is a too optimistic promise just to impress! Prove it, I say. He should go after the source of shabu from China and the Taiwanese and Chinese "transporters." who bring meth to our shores. As as I see it " drug suspects" are killed or
summarily executed . Too bad they were never tested for drugs. No urine, hair, or saliva samples were taken to confirm usage. The strongest evidence were possession of the illegal drugs, paraphernalia, and neighborhood snitches.

This is an old debate: All political regimes [kingdoms, thrones, parliaments, power, elitist credentials, wealth [ill-gotten] will perish. Nothing will remain on man's skeletons. But if the finished product of man's work or endeavor has an essential fiber of art [i.e., statesmanship as an art, Rizal's novel, man's great ideas, etc.], it will probably live forever: "Art [i.e., statesmanship as an art] that involves skill & beauty as well as originality leaves a legacy for the next generation." Remember that in a democratic regime, like the Republic of the Philippines, it is not only the Filipino voters who need an education, but the rulers. The editor [PNL]
must ask himself a simple question: How will I inculcate a sense of decency or
integrity to a ruthless tyrant?

The Orlando shooting is a hate crime against LGBTs. The Maguindanao massacre was also a hate crime against a political enemy or rival. Both were committed by a deranged Muslim. Private armies or rebel groups in ARRM have assault weapons or military grade guns which makes our military men fight our Muslim " brothers " lopsidedly . When the Ampatuans were at the height of power, not even Duterte could touch the old man who owns a house in Davao City. He was untouchable! HE WAS A LIVING GOD.

Someone said, "The Filipino apologists of Red Chinese were deeply infected by
the disease of Marxist-Leninist-Maoist ideology. What is the sinister goal of
Communist Chinese ideology? You don't need to be a stupid & an ignorant radical
student of the University of the Philippines to comprehend that the followers of
the blood-thirsty Red Chinese are willing to unleash their hatred & envy [with
moral righteousness, of course] against democratic capitalism." My reaction:
Duterte, a confessed socialists. is now about to give positions to three well
known leftists.

Someone who is a rigid Duterte supporter said, "I consider myself as an eclectic critic." My reaction: You supported and also justified the methods of Duterte, who practically has no respect for human rights and the presumption of innocence... and you call yourself
Eclectic? I call you a dumba*s. Plain and simple. No offense but it is what it

WA-KA-NGA!!! Tulad sabi Trump, kaming mga CHEK-WA tao are GREAT again. WA-KA-NGA!!!

Because Duterte advocated federalism some Congress people are quick to join this
exotic system of parliamentary form of government where all 17 regions and one autonomous regions will all be represented equally. Simply put each region would have equal number of senators and representatives regardless of demographics or natural and economic resources. Going into this form of government requires political maturity, temperament, and cognitive ability which our elective officials don't have. Let us not make this country a laboratory hoping to achieve an efficient system of governance. We might end up creating a monster out of this lab.

This fever on total war on drugs has gone wayward with over zealous PNP people exhibiting perverse behavior. A quiet family in Tumaga Interior in Zamboanga City was disturbed when a PNP raiding team invaded house 445 without any search warrant looking for something. Having found nothing and without any arrest warrant they took into custody a gay person and his friend in the precinct headquarters and locked them up. The charge was possession of an illegal substance. "Evidence"
was produced (planted) to bolster the charge. This modus operandi is well known and
it is the easiest way of extorting money. Anyone could relate to that easily especially among the poor and the dispossessed. They get less in life and always short-changed when it comes to Justice. The police has a solemn duty to Serve and Protect
citizens. They are violating the respect of the people and the trust as well. If the outgoing PNP chief or the incoming chief Bato de la Rosa happens to read this comment, I hope either one takes action.

Have you heard of the outrageous demand of the Panchon cemetery in Rodriguez that has taken people's money for the burial of their loved ones and now a year or less later is demanding money again to relocate them to Katolikong Himlayan. I would like to see a public inquiry in to this and a demand they honor the contract to bury people's loved ones.

Someone said, "Haven't you noticed that your vocabulary power is below standard of a sophisticated university educated critic? I think it is not feasible, or challenging to think, honestly, of world events & other people's lives with limited education on your part. Again, I am not a conformist critic." My reaction: What I do notice is that I am not the only one who feels annoyed by your takes because of poor tenses, spelling and grammatical and fragmented errors. You can't even deliver a convincing English composition which surprisingly, is what you think of ours.... (dude your problem is bigger than I thought). Also, You lie on facts, you invent, you revise facts Anyway, I live here in California and I am educated here in the US. So just how can I survive in a sophisticated land like America if my vocabulary is limited? You are one dense individual with an ego as big the big dome in Cubao or Sea World here in San Diego. Perhaps you should modifiy your Ingles-Bisaya system of expression.

[Someone] wrote: Marslow talks of man hierarchy of needs..." My reaction: Where is the pakbet? Let me expose your naked ignorance in this forum for good. Marslow theory was subjective; it was burdened by doubts or questions. As a student of Pyrrhonian skeptics, I am compelled to give my radical interpretations of Maslow theory of self-interest. Of course,
there's nothing wrong with pursuing/satisfying your interest. Why? It is natural as breathing. Marslow was a realist. You don't need to agree with me. Imagine a hypothetical polarities between the two worlds: "between a world of self-interest or selfishness & a world of healthy self-interest." I think you didn't digest the essence of my previous comments. I think you miserably failed to comprehend Marslow
hidden theme: individual greed.

[Someone] has once again defended his idol, Atty. Rodis: "he is not my idol
because his political lineage is different than mine." It means to say you are
just an average man, not a member of the minorities. Minorities are specially

etc], economics, social [culture] & so forth of our times.

Every time I come across comments from MockingMaya I miss Architect Mallonga. Remember him? The Canadian whom COMELEC disqualified from running for President? If only Mallonga were allowed to run I am almost sure Duterte will not be strutting around as President-elect. I wonder what Mallonga and Mockingmaya will say to each other if they ever meet face to face?
