It is false hope that the drug menace will be reduced without human rights violation. A corresponding increase in homicide and unsolved crime will follow after a decrease of illegal drug use. Many over zealous police to earn "pogi"'points will likely plant evidence to incriminate others . Or to extort money.

Re: President Duterte-- His chances of staying as President for his term will totally depend on him and the men and women he appointed as members of his Cabinet. The moment the Filipinos realize that there is abuse of power and rampant corruption, his days in power would immediately be in question. .Just analyze what happened to Erap in 2000.In the first place it was a mistake for a sitting President to go to a Bank and open an account using fictitious name in front of a Bank Employee.. If you are President you don't do those things as you immediately loose
deniability. Only a person with small time thinking would do that. Thus Erap lost ihs 6 year term and on top of that was
convicted of Plunde with a penalty of Reclusion Prepetua.

It is true that the United States introduced to this country the concept of democracy but we have abused the beauty of the system. We created political monsters and installed public official by direct elections or by appointments who are unworthy of the people's trust. Whether we adopt the parliamentary or democratic system of government, the people still get a congress or parliament made up of the same wolves dressed in a sheep's
clothing. While it is true that voters vote to elect their president, it is the Electoral College that gives the country their president.

RE: Power turnover... Our system worked well until one man destroyed our peaceful turnover when he made up an alleged communist uprising.. convincing then President Nixon in 1972..Mr President if I don't declare Martial Law the communist would take over the Philippines..Of course that was a lie. He
couldn't give up his power when the Constitution limited it to 4 years plus one
reelection. So FM immediately took over Meralco with the Late Kokoy running it. Now his son still wants to be President. Greed destroyed our
peaceful turnover.

Philippine politics is no different from other countries that exercise the right to suffrage. It polarizes people. Some take it personally. They become poor losers. Winners become arrogant and condescending. Duterte made so many promises and raised too much people's expectations. He talks of eradicating crime particularly the war on drugs. Drug addiction is symptomatic of poverty that drives people to earn an extra buck by pushing it. The pusher eventually ends up as drug user. These pushers are protected from arrest by the police who also protect the "drug lords". Whack the pushers and the protector survives. Whack the protector and the drug lord lives.

I think president Duterte has learned from the bitter lessons of Third World politics: the collapsed of Third World dictatorial regimes [i.e., Marcos, Suharto, etc. &"the allure of world dictatorship," for instance, Hitler promised political change to subdue political terrorism or violence. Why Filipino democratic politicians or public servant are often mired in incompetence or inaction [past & present], like president Aquino, president Arroyo, president Estrada & others? Some of these past leaders are educated but their political statements were clouded in obscurity & ambiguity. They were not adept in political leadership; they were experts in corrupt business leadership. Now that you're shaken up by the election of a strong political leader, president Duterte, who wants to take a tough measure against micro-macro drug trafficking, terrorism, & so on. Incompetence, lack of courage, & lack of vision are some of the characteristics of Filipino leaders. Do you have a theory of radical change under president Duterte? The sovereignty of your beloved land of birth is under attack by Communist Chinese, yet your leaders who have the best cultivated minds kuno can't even create "information warriors" in a cutting-age technology. Is it due to folly, fallacy & ignorance of your elected Filipino politicians & diplomats that Philippine democracy still a "bandit democracy" today? I don't wanna know.

I think president Duterte must also concentrate on the elimination of terrorist groups & extremist individuals [who hold strong quasi-religious elements] in Mindanao. I do believe that sectarian fanaticism will be one of the greatest threats to president Duterte's administration. Remember a small terrorist group is more fanatical, for example, a small group of Israeli extremists [who firmly believes that blowing up Temple Mount in Jerusalem will lead to final religious war], a small group of Abu Sayaff terrorists in Mindanao, & so forth. What is the maxim of international terrorist or Chaos International? According to Hassan I
Sabbah, the master of the Assasins [a medieval sect whose members killed Crusaders & other religious ecstasy], "everything is permitted, the master says."

Rodrigo Duterte and his party should not be living under the false notion that they have won the majority of voters. They won by 39% instead of 50 + 1 for a majority. It is a simple PLURALITY. In the BREXIT, 52% of all Britons chose to leave the EU. That is the pulse of all Britons. The men and women however that comprise Duerte's cabinet are mere KKK. Not all are technocrats nor young enough to be the source of fresh ideas. Off hand, these untested men and women will falter and stumble. Some mistakes might be self -limiting while others might be too deep to correct. If that happens there is nobody to blame but by those who were swayed by the slogan : matapang, kamay na bakal, at matatag. TINGNAN PO NATIN ANG TAPANG, ANG KAMAY, AT KATATAGAN!

You would be tempted to infer that 39% or some 17 million Voters will stay with Digong. If he does not deliver with his lofty ambitions or seductive promises that number will not hold. Many will exit. In BREXIT, the referendum showed 52% showed to exit EU the reason being that EU is holding back
Britain's progress. As a consequence people's job prospects will be limited. Non- British subjects will need a visa to work in England. Moreover, Britons has that fear that it might lead to some kind of United States of Europe if Britons opted to remain. I would not be surprised that the man from Taft will give his convoluted take on the basis of being
anointed as an "eclectic critic"!

It might be a majority of those who voted but it was just a minority of the total voting population. As I understood it, only 70% of all voters voted and the leavers equated to a minority of 36% of all voters. 30% of all voters stayed at home. So the decision to leave was won by a minority vote. What a bummer!

52% of Britons turn their backs on EU and that would qualify as an " anti- establishment votes. You could not say that 39% of Pinoy voters who voted for Digong were really anti- establishment votes. The election of Duterte could not be seen as an anti-establishment vote because there were more senators elected under the LP banner than Digong's party. 52% of Britons turn their backs on EU. Let us see if Duterte's likeability rating will rise above 39% by the end of December 2016. If not, he failed. His followers will be disappointed but his friends in Davao will remain loyal. He will be spending more time in Matina than in Malacañang to find solace. The presidency is a very lonely job. Failure is no option. The "P " word will then be used by the people against him if he fails and his promises were never kept.

I commend the British for their decision. They don't need to be accountable to anyone. Not to any country or countries, nor to any Union at all. They are their own people. The United Kingdom was once an empire and that alone means this country can stand on its own with its ingenuity, talent and their resources. Frankly we need them to assume a greater role in World Leadership and they can not do that if they are accountable to a governing body leadership that doesn't cater to their needs and identity as a powerful and dynamic nation. Why depend on the European Union for their personal matters like their pension and benefits? their money's purchasing value? Why absorb the problems of other nations when they have problems of their own, especially if these problems were caused by corruption and recklessness. Right now they will chart the course of their history and prove to the world they can contribute better as an independent nation. The only way they can fail if they fail themselves.. so there's the essence of responsibility. They succeed together or they fail together, they will face the future together as a people.

The transformation of Europe [European integration] & its evolution is an interesting subject for students of world politics. The common provision of the consolidated version of the EU [see Article 6 [ex Article F] states that "the Union is founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights & fundamental freedoms, & the rule of law..." The question is, does the EU enjoy full sovereignty & power [i.e., monopoly of governance, legitimacy, etc.] manifested in state? What are the roles of states to confront the micro-macro influences that affect the EU? Is there a general theory of EU integration?

It is commonplace that the EU is engaged in postering Third World economic development. What would be the effect of the BREXIT on the social & economic development of developing countries, for example, EU's campaign against poverty in the Third World? What are the major weaknesses of EU in formulating its external policies? I think the competitive key to greater wealth, stature & power in the 21st century & beyond will remain a potent controversy because the world is rapidly changing, for example, how states national interests can affect the stability of their relations with global system is a feature of statecraft.

As a student of ideas, I am not worried about the British people leaving the EU. Why? Great Britain will remain strong if she leaves the weak & unstable EU. Some of the critics of the EU argue that "the nation-state is the natural supreme unit, not international organization." It is common knowledge that the EU is also shaped by the idea of Utopianism or utopian progress that advancement in civilization is within the control of man. I am more worried about the corrupt political leadership in the Philippines, for example, Communist China has imposed an ethical-moral challenge on Philippine sovereignty. Is sovereignty passe in modern democracy? Is the monopoly of violence [or legitimate violence or power] in modern democratic state passe? Is patriotism or nationalism or love of country passe? Why is it easier to prevent an invasion [with the possible help of the greatest super power on earth, the USA, of course] than to maintain complete control over your own citizens [i.e., corrupt Filipino politicians, drug lords, terrorists, tax evaders], & so forth?

The right to bear arms in the US was really intended for self-defense,
resistance to oppression and in consonant with the state to defend the country.
But this second amendment right has gone almost without limit. Anyone has access
to military grade weapons such as assault weapons. There is no limit even in
quantity. Gun ownership is not limited to stay in the domicile. One could bring
it as a concealed or displayed like what people see in western movies. In the
Philippines a permit to carry a gun is allowed outside of the domicile and
normally concealed. Political armies are proud to display their guns with a lot
of pride.

Someone from Taft Avenue admitted that he is no expert on penology, which in plain language is prison management or study in the punishment of crime. Punishment is an act of retribution extracted against a person for a crime or sins against humanity or society. Genocide is a crime against humanity. Stealing is a crime against society. Ignorance and stupidity however is a self inflicted damage to a person. In today's society we view punishment as inhumane or cruel as in execution by stoning? Chopping the head off for stupidity is too extreme . In short whether a punishment fits the crime or not is relative. Often it is guided by good judgment or wisdom. God even sent the Great Deluge to punish all living creatures outside of Noah's
ark.

To the question if Rizal would have preferred or chosen federalism , the equivocal answer is NO. Randy David who wrote the article on that subject ( 6/19/16 Daily Inquirer) , that this man from Taft had used as his reference completely mis-read and misunderstood the premise of the argument. R. DAVID wrote: " I doubt if Rizal was a federalist. Nothing in his writings suggest that.... Rizal believed it would only complicate the task of building a unified and strong nation. " Randy David concluded in his article: "Federalism will not
solve poverty and inequality because it does not touch the real center. It only redraws the periphery." My issue with this "erudite " man from Taft is that he disseminates wrong information. That is journalistic fraud!

I am sorry to say that [someone] (from Taft Avenue) has zero, zilch knowledge on Maslow's Theory on Human Motivation or better known as hierarchy of needs. It is not about greed or interest as
[that someone] erroneously misinterpreted (as usual). In the level of human
needs the very basic need is safety. Men are motivated to go beyond the need for
safety to self actualization. For example Bill Gates is no longer interested in
increasing his wealth but rather to pursue some interests to help mankind. In
fact he and his wife will donate their wealth to charity.
